The first ‘gig’ was at the International Conference Centre in Telford, Shropshire. They performed their dance piece ‘ I am the Child ‘ at the Youth Sports Trust Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony . It was a huge honour and well worth the 10 hour round trip. We stayed at the Edge Adventure Centre and for many it was their first time away from home overnight. We are so proud of them taking such a big step out of their comfort zone to represent our school.

We had primary pupils in the morning and secondary pupils in the afternoon.  This fantastic event was held in conjunction with the Physical Disabilities Team from Devon County Council.

Created and edited by our Year 9 pupils in their Expressive Arts sessions, this Creative Media project was brought to life with the help of Mr Jack Thompson - Lead of Innovations at Sound Communities. We spent a whole term with him shooting some unforgettable footage across the whole school. We learnt all about camera angles, shot types and how to operate a drone. We then focussed on how to edit and, of course, add music - our soundtrack was composed by our very own talented singer-songwriter Rosie Mahjenta. 

We are incredibly proud of the results!

The day consisted of a festival for three local special schools in the morning followed by a quick turnaround for an additional festival for four further mainstream schools bringing pupils with SEND. This targeted festival demonstrated a range of non-traditional activities which had been chosen and some co-created with the pupils leading the activities inclusive of: noughts and crosses boccia, defending the towers, hungry hippos on scooter boards and exciting tri-biking!

I just wanted to add my thanks to all the team that supported, mentored, and coached our young people around the course.  Our students were simply phenomenal!

It emphasises the importance of providing support and resources to those who may be struggling with mental health concerns.

Thank you to Chris Ostler who welcomed everyone in with his toe tapping Christmas tunes and the Exeter Railway Band who gave us a traditional Brass Band concert with a chance to sing well known carols at the end.  It was beautiful. So many smiley faces around.
