Super Sports Day at OMS

On Friday 25 May 2025, OMS Sports Leaders and PE Team hosted a Super Sports Day for children with Physical Disabilities from mainstream schools across Devon, in conjunction with the Devon Physical Disabilities Advisory Team.

In the morning the visiting children took part in 4 different activities which were led by our Sports Leaders. Everyone also had a Sports Leader as a Buddy to guide and support them through the day.

The children had so much fun playing Boccia, Cornhole, adapted Basketball and Tennis with hands and big red balloons. They all came together at the end for a giant team game aiming to knock targets over and win cones, and, of course, we finished with The Magic Scarf and a certificate for everyone.

In the afternoon different children came, and this time it was mostly led by the inspirational Jack from exeterotterswbc.weebly.com .  He managed to squeeze 10 sports wheelchairs into his car so that our leaders could also experience wheelchair basketball and the skills involved. Mr Patchett tried too, but was heavily marked out of the game by a skilful year 4 child!

It was an amazing day and the OMS PE Team were so very proud of all our Sports Leaders.

One of the Devon Advisory Team wrote the following that evening:

"I just wanted to write to say an enormous thank you for such a fantastic day:  I drove back thinking about all the individual successes, and seeing some of the children achieve more than they would have thought, as well as developing relationships with your super students, who were absolutely great at recognising what our children needed."
