BBC Interview with Sam Hill

Recently, our Pink Class children were TV stars for the day in an interview with Sam Hill, our Assistant Headteacher (Curriculum & Assessment) when she talked to the BBC about her mission to change the current screening tests for literacy to include non-verbal children.

Devon school calls for inclusive tests for non-verbal pupils

Sam Hill is our school champion, not just for the students but for all other children with communication challenges, and she is an ambassador for learning to read with phonics.

Sam has put forward a petition to parliament to change the current phonics screening test and to include the early years and the Key Stage 1 curriculum frameworks. In the petition, Sam is asking that they be adapted to make them inclusive for all children with oral communication challenges.

Just because a child doesn't speak, it doesn't mean that they don't understand, and this is an important part of her campaign and why Sam wants to have the testing changed.

This evening their story will be showing on BBC Spotlight South West at 18:30. There will also be mentions throughout the day on BBC Spotlight and Radio Devon and Cornwall.

Look out for our fabulous Sam and our little superstars!

Also, would you sign the petition if you haven't already, and share it far and wide. This is definitely something that would benefit every child who has communication difficulties.
