Assessments & Outcomes

As a specialist school, many of our pupils follow highly individualised learning pathways tailored to their strengths, needs and aspirations. National performance measures are based on mainstream examination routes and may not fully reflect the progress and achievements of our pupils. We measure success through a broad range of academic, personal, social and preparation-for-adulthood outcomes, ensuring that every young person is supported to achieve their individual potential.

School Performance Data

School performance information can be viewed on the Department for Education's Compare School Performance website. As a special school, national performance measures should be considered alongside the individual progress, personal development and wider achievements of our pupils.

The government maintains performance data relating to the school. If you click on the link below you will be able to view the latest Key Stage 2 and 4 data.

The Key Stage 4 data includes the Progress 8 and Attainment scores as well as GCSE's grade 5 and above.

Attainment 8 is based on pupils' achievement across eight GCSE-level qualifications at Key Stage 4 and reflects measurements designed primarily around mainstream secondary education pathways. The government comparison service includes special schools, and schools can be compared against local authority averages.

However, for a school like Orchard Manor, several factors can significantly affect the score:

  • Many pupils have complex SEND needs and may not follow a full GCSE curriculum.
  • Some pupils may be entered for fewer qualifications.
  • Pupils may be working towards alternative qualifications that are not fully reflected in Attainment 8 measures.
  • Small cohorts can make results appear particularly high or low from year to year.

The data available on the government site also includes pupil destinations, showing the percentage of students who continue in education or training or move onto employment after Post 16.
